FREA'S PAST LEGISLATIVE ACTIONS

1982 - Retirement at age 55 after 25 years of service.  Tax-exempt status for FREA granted by the Florida Department of Revenue.

1984 - School Insurance plans opened to former personnel and spouses.  Reemployment without restrictions permitted for all retirees after 12 months of retirement.

1986 - Supplemental health insurance plan established for all FRS members.

1989 - Annual 3% cost of living adjustment guaranteed for all retirees.

1990 - Health Insurance Subsidy of $3 per year of service from 10 to 30.

1996 - Retirees retired prior to 7/1/76 with 25 years or more of service, who are neither receiving nor eligible to receive Social Security Benefits and whose monthly benefit as of 7/1/96 is less than $1000, upon application to the administrator, shall receive a supplemental COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment)

1998 - The monthly health insurance subsudy was increased from $3 to $5 for each year of service, effective January 1, 1999..
